We renovated this cosy 120-year-old South Yarra home, introducing a more contemporary style with modern-day conveniences while maintaining the period charm throughout. Thanks to a clever, cleaner design, the home now maximises every inch of space. The updated home is also more practical and liveable, with timeless appeal.
Preserving period charm
The client wanted to bring new elements into play without taking away from the home’s rich history. Originally a straight renovation project, it evolved into a restoration project. The owner was keen to use original flooring, so we bought the flooring from the neighbours, who were renovating and installed it in the home. Our interior designer also sourced vintage and recycled pieces to use throughout the home. The age of many of the original features meant that there were bumps and humps everywhere. To overcome this, we had to reinforce, strip back and restore many of these and adapt new building methods to blend in with the period features.
